Dan Heller: Hear Say See

A visitor begins by listening to sound effects in the dark, both natural and artificial and is asked to "describe" where they are, and what they see.

Dan Heller "Hear, Say, See"

In this installation, the visitor begins by listening to sound effects in the dark, both natural and artificial and is asked to "describe" where they are, and what they see. This description is then used as a search query for an image-based search online, and images that match these queries are displayed.

Dan Heller, is a photographer and software engineer, with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He has worked in the computer industry and founded a company called Z-Code Software. His current project for his MFA is a voice operated image search system based on verbal descriptions  of recorded sounds played for the visitor. The images displayed, are often right on target revealing surprising and sometimes counter-intuitive results.
