DARC 206 (5-6)
NETWORK SOFTWARE FOR THE ARTISTS TOOLBOX
Network theory, also known as Graph Theory in the mathematics universe, has had a major renaissance lately due to new results in social network analysis. In this presentation Ralph Abraham will show off the aesthetic aspects of some of the new tools, and images from the recent literature. He hopes to meet current DANM students and develop a DANM workshop for winter quarter on this theme.
Ralph Abraham, world-reknowned UCSC Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, has been involved in DANM since its earliest years. He writes, "My research and teaching in chaos theory have made intensive use of computer graphics and sound. My interest in the DANM program is to interest students in math as artware, and make math tools available on the digital pallette."
** Please note the DANM Tuesdays presentation will begin in DARC 230 at 4:00 for the Creative Tactics and Art Responses: Ricardo Dominguez lecture. Raplh's lecture will begin in DARC 206 at 5:00 pm.
