About Jess Damsen
Jess Damsen, M.F.A., Digital Art & New Media (UCSC)
Jess is a new media artist working primarily with audio/video technologies in both public new media and traditional art venues. The artist investigates ways that new forms of digital dialogue and experimental digital art intersect to create unique aesthetic and communication experiences.
Jess is currently working on a series of "experimental art documentaries" in high definition 1080i format that will also be used as a dialogic project on the Internet. This work is a continuation of the artist's interest in offering work that makes a statement or poses questions about human motivations while generating public dialog about it. These works juxtapose "visual and sonic found artifacts" taken from all potential cultural sources against images and music created by the artist to convey messages without using most standard forms of written text or verbal narration.
The artist enjoys collaboration with musicians, performance artists, students, and Internet culture. Recent collaborations include creating media art for use during live performances of "Here After Here", directed by Tandy Beal, and for the Santa Cruz County Symphony's youth production of "A Child of our Times." Experimental A/V messaging, Motion-detect technology, virtual reality experiences and collaboration with other artists are Jess's current faves. The artist accepts proposals to work on music videos, live performance imaging and programs that empower youth with new mass media tools and knowledge.
