I suppose I was mostly confused by Bill Viola's video installations. Still struggleing with my modernist approach I couldn't see the "meaning" of his work and I think I was trying too hard to interpret what I was seeing.
For example
Room for St. John of the Cross drew my interest the most, and after I pondered a while on possible "meanings" I decided he was discoursing on the results of sensory depravation and overload. Wanting a barometer to judge my observation by I googled critical reviews of his work and foud out they thought he was talking about Dataspace. Chagrine and forlorn, I though I hadn't "got it" and then Beth set me straight about the roll of critic in the artist viewer relation.
That's why I created this random page...but then after I wrote about my experience I lost internet connection and the thoughts never made it to "paper" as it were.
