Change Password
The danm.ucsc.edu server uses Apple accounts for authentication and most of the services hosted on this machine are authenticated off of those accounts using LDAP. (This wiki is just such a service.)
To change your password
You must change your danm.ucsc.edu Apple account to effect the other services on this machine.
You can change your danm password online with this form:

On a Macintosh you can change your password using Apple Filesharing Protocal (afp).
- On an OS X Macintosh go to the Finder
- From the "Go" menue item choose "Connect To Server..."
- In the Server Address field type "danm.ucsc.edu" and click the "Connect" button.
- In the "Connect to Server" dialog window in the lower left corner there is a "settings" or "options" button - (it might look like a gear) - click on that.
- Choose [SHOCK] "Change Password"... and follow the instructions after that.
Using SSH to change your password
- Get an
SSH client - Using SSH connect to danm.ucsc.edu
ssh yourshortname@danm.ucsc.edu - After connection change your password with the command
passwdand hit enter/return
Password must...
- Differ from account name.
- Contain at least one letter.
- Contain at least one numeric character.
- Contain at least 4 characters.
