The DANM MFA is a two-year program. We have reduced our required minimum number of units from 76 to 74 units as a result of extensive interviews and town hall meetings with students and faculty over the last two years.
New Courses
1. Orientation Incoming students are required to attend this intensive two-week technical orientation in September before the beginning of the fall quarter. Workshops introduce fundamentals of programming and scripting, electronics, image, moving image and sound acquisition and manipulation— standard software packages including Photoshop, Flash, FinalCut, Illustrator, MAX/MSP Jitter.
2. DANM 224 Digital Arts Project Studio This 5 unit practice-based elective course provides the opportunity for first year students to develop a project for critique and public exhibition in Porter College gallery facilities during the winter quarter.
3. DANM 215 MFA Exhibition Production This 5 unit course formalizes student work on their MFA exhibition under the supervision of a faculty member in the spring quarter.
Course Revisions
1. DANM 219 Electronics Workshop and DANM 220 Programming Workshops These 3 unit courses are now a full 5 units in the fall and winter quarters.
2. DANM 211A and 211B Critique | Lecture for first year students These two 3 unit courses have been collapsed into one five unit course, 211, held in the spring quarter. This will open up the winter quarter for the selection of a practice or studies elective.
3. DANM 213A and DANM 213B Critique | Lecture course for second year students These courses have been dropped as a requirement in favor of allowing more time for independent and directed research on the thesis project and paper in the winter and spring quarters.
4. DANM 267 Workshop in Computer Music and Visualization This 3 quarter/2 unit elective workshop in Max/MSP Jitter allows DANM students may take any one or all of the workshops as desired (formerly DANM 223).
