Discussion of the Analysis Paper (DUE NEXT TUESDAY, in class)

  1. Title Page
  2. Introductory Paragraph with identification of the article and your thesis statement. Example thesis statement: {I will argue that} Matos presents clear and convincing evidence that the Templo Mayor was the most important structure in Tenochtitlan and, as such, was enlarged several times over a two hundred year period.
  3. A clear statement of the topic/problem addressed by the author
  4. A concise summary of the author's conclusions.
  5. The characterization of the intended audience and how that affected the style and presentation (if at all). Look at source books or journal.
  6. An identification and discussion of the kinds of evidence used (iconographic? ethnographic? archaeological?); provide CONCRETE illustrations to support your identification of evidence, and demonstrate that you know what constitutes that type of evidence.
  7. A comparison of the author's conclusions with those of other scholars.
  8. A reasoned evaluation of the evidence, method, arguments and conclusions. State your position clearly even if it is ambivalent. (this should be the largest section of your paper)
  9. A bibliography or "works cited" page, formatted according to MLA style.
