Christoph Girard
Chris(toph) Girard's interest in subverting the semantic form of poetic artifice is a universal theme for most major poets. The way he can bring a new readership or an eye to looking at poetry is by going beyond a linear-based interface into digital form. The inflection of poetry beyond a page in a book is the only sustainable media for all forms of uncommercial, experimental literature.
In order to publish poetry as a research practice with technology, he plans to go beyond the literary aesthetic and show the process of change in media. He also wants to approach hypertext with accessible art like video, performance, and electronic media in order to show the sustainability of a poetic medium. This is an ongoing project for his published chapbook entitled
TRY ME (2008) also released from
TAXT which is a series of lexical anagrams translated from unsolicited bulk email he collected over an eight month period.
Most contemporary poets consider themselves lucky if they can find a small press that will publish their work for free but the dire reality is that the distribution of small presses can only reach a limited audience at best. The antiquated medium of dead tree editions are often inaccessible as almost all bookstores only offer a limited selection of poetry.
He graduated with a first MFA in Writing from Otis College of Art & Design in 2008 and is currently pursuing his second MFA in Digital Arts and New Media at UC Santa Cruz. You can find more information about him on the following links.
