X-RAY PROJECT

Ways to approach/interpret art:


Formal/Aesthetic:


Shape, color, line, weight, light, screen use, contrast, texture, tonality, dissonance, harmony, etc.

Conceptual:


Idea, meaning, goal, purpose, vision, story, coherence, consistency, logic, engagement, inspiration, impact, etc.

Historical:


Place in the history of art, conversation with other artists, direct and indirect influences, comparable works, relation to history of practices, relation to history of materials, etc.

Social/Political Critique:


Ideology behind the work of art, relations of power presupposed in the art work, relations of power that take place within the work, relations with intended audience, social dynamic, etc.

Functional Critique:


Practicality, craftsmanship, location, lighting, mechanical concerns, cost, production, schedule, etc.
