A Personal Approach to Inefficiency: The Lady's Glove, Sound Performance & Installations
Laetitia Sonami will discuss her work in electronic music performance and sound installation, and talk about her personal trajectory from the late seventies' exploration of analog sound systems to her current hybrid systems. She will demonstrate the "lady's glove", and talk about her current music piece" The Invention of Perspective" and her collaboration with video artist Sue Costabile "I.C. You," both of which are presented at the DANM Festival on Saturday May 6, 8:30pm at the Media Theater TA M110.
Bio
Laetitia Sonami is an electronic composer, performer and sound installation artist. Her performance work combines text, music and found sound, in compositions which have been described as "performance novels." Her interactive installations focus on embedding every day objects with kinetic and sonic personalities. Best known for her lady's glove, an evening black lycra glove studded with a myriad of sensors, she has performed worldwide and is based in Oakland, CA. She currently teaches at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Milton Avery graduate school of the Arts at Bard College.
