Describe courses / fall05 / danm201 /TechnologiesOfTheGenderedBody here.
I was really intrigued by the concept that the female body was once considered to be a lesser version of the male body, as if being female was nothing more complicated than lacking certain qualities or having less of certain vitalities than a male. As much as this is old hat there is still a trend to consider the default to be male and being femal to be a special circumstace. I remember in highschool always protesting against using "him" the defaut singular pronoun, I wanted to use "their" but my teacher were always telling me it was incorrect as it implied plurality, of course they didn't offer a better solution. -nici
