Hello everyone,
As you are aware you have an October 15th deadline for completion of the Thesis Committee form, a November 1 deadline for completion of your thesis project proposal, a November 15th deadline for completion of your oral review and a December 1 deadline for completion of your Thesis Abstract form. DANM 212 is a special non-credit course which is designed to help you meet these deadlines. First, I will meet with each of you this week to consult with you about the current status of your work toward your thesis and advise you on the constitution of your Thesis Committee. Once you have engaged a committee the chair of your committee will become your advisor and you will begin to work with your committee on the project proposal, oral review and abstract. I will stay in touch with each of you to make sure that you are on track with your committee and making progress in both your writing and project development. To this end, I would like to meet with each of you this week. I have posted an electronic sign-up sheet on the wiki at

Lyle assures me that you all have access to edit this page so please log in and sign-up asap for an appointment that fits your schedule. I have listed seventeen potential 30 minute appointments with 15 minutes in-between for run-over. There are 15 students. If you absolutely cannot fit yourself into any of the available slots please email me directly.
Please be prepared to describe your thesis project, as currently conceived, in a clear and concise manner and be ready to discuss the theoretical framework that you plan to provide in the the thesis paper. You may want to bring in a draft proposal and bibliography. I know some of you have already engaged your committee. In that case this would be a good time to bring in the form with signatures for my approval. If you haven't already thought about this or discussed it with potential committee members please consider who you might like to work with before we meet. The guidelines for constitution of a thesis committee are included in the student handbook.
If you have other matters that you need to discuss with me or paperwork that you need me to sign we can use the 15 minute "over-time" at the end of your appointment, if needed, to take care of such matters.
These appointments will take place in the Chair's office - 231. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to talk with each of you.
best, Sharon
