Assignments
THEA 31c is primarily about engaged, active participation. Through regular engagement in individual and group critique sessions, we create and sustain an artistic and intellectual community.
- Elevator Speech. Create a 3 minute oral presentation as if your were speaking to folks who might give you funding. To be videoed in the second meeting on 4/16/07.
- Self-assessments. You are required to produce two (2) self-assessments of your expectations and experiences in the course and of your own work. Self-assessment (or self-appraisal, self-evaluation) plays a central role in artistic practice. Typical self-appraisal questions – i.e., what did I learn, what risks did I take, and what will I change – reflect the highest level of assessment, self-examination, because they require you to judge personal strengths and weaknesses.
- Peer critiques. You are required to present works-in-progress for group critique and to participate in critique discussions using Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process. Peer critique uses collaborative observation and analysis to more closely resemble the way a community of artists (or cohort of students) live and learn together. The peer critiques can only be completed in class.
- Final assignment. You are required to visit the 2nd year cohort's MFA Graduate Show, Emergence 2007 at the
Digital Media Factory lieu of a final class on June 14th.
