Palabras Lesson Plan for IGO
Workshop Objective Goals:
- Have Palabras function as a promotional website for IGO aiding in the retention and potential increase of program interest and funding.
- Allow IGO to archive the guerilla theater and community workshops that IGO students conduct.
- Teach students how to navigate the Palabras site, and utilize the video upload and edit functions to archive IGO footage.

Materials:
At least five computers running Windows 98 or later/Mac OSX , with internet access.
CD with Quicktime converted movies/DV tapes/CVS cameras with captured footage
CVS camera cord
Projector/ or large monitor
Video camera/CVS camera

Workshop Duration: 120minutes
Workshop
- Students break into groups of three per computer and go to the Palabras site
- Each group is responsible for one CD/ DV tape/ CVS camera with footage.
- Facilitator gives brief tour of Palabras site and features. Give students several minutes to explore the site and features.
- Students receive their login name and password. They log into the site, and are directed to the upload screen
- Facilitator shows students how to upload footage
- Facilitator gives brief explanation of tagging and shows students how to tag. Also shows tag examples from other groups/sites
- Student groups upload and tag footage
- Facilitator guides students to the editor and shows editor features
- Student groups edit footage and render timelines
- Each group presents their timeline to the class
- The workshop and facilitator guided tutorial is recorded with a video camera/CVS camera and posted with the IGO group footage for future reference.
Questions/Concerns:
- Will editing tools (like Kaltura) be embedded in the editor?
- Is there any way for students to download the footage they edit/upload?
- Does palabras only upload/edit video thats captured from the CVS video or any video uploaded to the computer harddrive? –Yes it uploads Quicktimes-
- How do you delete footage that you’ve uploaded?
