Here is a PDF of a project proposal I wrote a couple of years ago for the Tribeca Film Institute New Media Fellowship. This proposal was tailored to the guidelines of the funder and therefore does not exactly match the guidelines I have given you (which are, of course, guidelines not rules) but I think it might be helpful as an example in any case. There is a brief abstract then a proposal narrative and an artist statement but not a separate contextual statement. The context is addressed in a minimal way in the proposal itself. Normally in a fellowship proposal you are not expected to compare your project to other work in the field as you are in a thesis. Instead, you are asked to describe supporting work of your own - as you will see in this document I have described three other projects individually as was the format for the proposal application. For examples of contextual statements have a look at the 210 work done by the current second year cohort in response to this assignment (which you should be able to find on their wiki pages with their work for 210 last year).
