CathexiSpin proposes mobile spinning classes ready to be deployed in public places, sites where communities can come together and invest their mechanical energy in autonomous alternative energy initiatives. Everyday, _ people take spinning classes for hours. If every spinning class was connected to the grid, imagine the kilowatts of electrical power we could return to the community! To harness the transformative power of spinning-generated electrical energy, CathexiSpin offers spinning classes that are free and open to the public. Each class is led by an artist/spinning instructor, using customized bicycle generators. The energy created by the collaborative effort of the instructor and participants powers individual batteries that together, form an aggregate reserve of art energy.
Our spinning classes can range from a small group (3-6 spinners) to a larger fleet of stationary bicycles (10-15 spinners). Participants can spin using a bike already connected to the CathexiSpin system, or they can bring their own bikes and insert them into open stations. Spinning classes are scheduled in thirty minute blocks at regular times during the day. When there are no scheduled classes, the bikes will be available to visitors who wish to independently contribute to our bank of art energy. Classes will take place in public spaces, preferably outdoors, and a larger class will require a twenty-five foot square location. The instructor's station will incorporate amplified music and public address system powered by our art energy. Instructors will be sensitive to limitations on sound levels. CathexiSpin would ideally run for more than one day, and the installation requires one day to set-up and one day to uninstall.
We propose this installation for __. There will be a class at the upcoming UCSC festival, Intervene! Interrupt! Rethinking Art as Social Practice, in collaboration with an inflatable Art Farm installation.
This is the rough draft of our <business> card to hand out when talking the project up to people. Nada's contact info is on it as she's the first to need them. We can print more for each of us as needed.

I made the FOF image up for fun...we're not obligated to stick with it. We can also make it say other things...like "Love Me!" which is one of my favorites or "bff?"--Nici
