Project Design Studio with Sharon DanielI. Professor Daniel introduces the
syllabus, discusses the workshops that we will attend, and takes questions about the structure of the course.
The remaining 7 students will present next week. We will also attempt to form our project clusters at that time.
A number of potential collaborations between our proposed projects came to mind immediately. Alex's ideas about hosting 'legacy' projects for historical and/or fictional figures may, for example, find affinity with site specific documentary projects such as Christoph's recent interviews with Hard Core? youth musicians in Berkeley/Oakland.
Similarly, Jessica's web-based/flash bio-medical biographies might become excellent source imagery for installation based interactive projects such as proposed by Nick.
II. Project Clusters:
These groups are based on project affinity. Mostly, from Sharon's perspective, these folks cluster well in terms of conceptual affinities. Later in the quarter we will reshuffle the deck and try clustering based on differences in conceptual background or project trajectory.
Our group (Alex, Christoph, Elizabeth and myself) sat down to chat, made a plan to meet on Wednesday afternoon, and discussed what we might like to call ourselves. We quickly noted that we all wear glasses--prescription lenses that is. We toyed with simply calling ourselves glasses, and generally felt attracted to the idea of the name we all wear glasses, but I want to make a bid that we name ourselves We All Wear Spectacles. You can link to my ranting on this subject here.
