while completing the danm mfa program, i want to explore the relationship between motion and sound in film, more specifically how motion conveys sound. there is a correlation between motion and sound, in that, almost every motion carries with it a specific sound that is unique both to the motion itself and to the person or thing that is performing it. however, i want to try and break down that relationship by trying to separate the sound from the motion and vice versa. in this way, one performance becomes two distinct entities in that the performance is read the same way with the sound and without the sound. in order to do this. i want to create film that is both silent and full of sound. by creating an interface in which to explore this relationship, i hope to attain a more symbiotic association where the sound takes away from the underlying concept of the film.
in the future, i would like to add a performative aspect to this idea, where the audience is both the performer and soundtrack.
i first became interested in the study of motion while completing the cartwheel project.
i then went on to working with form study.
my experimental silent movie.
