Bio
Laila Shereen Sakr <VJ Um Amel> is an Egyptian-American poet, vj, activist, and digital media artist. Formerly multimedia and publications editor at Georgetown University’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Laila is currently a graduate student in Digital Arts and New Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her current endeavor is building a repository for Arab Digital Media, and projecting “Remixes from the Archive by VJ Um Amel.” (Um Amel is Arabic for “Mother of Hope”).
