  1. Documentation in some form of one example project that is relevant to your proposed project (One that you have seen and/or read about but not created yourself). Be prepared to present and analyze this example to your cluster.

    1. Recently I saw an amazing installation at the San Jose Museum of Art. I instantly fell in love, with the way everyone seemed to be intimately interacting with their own installation, not just one installation that was designed to be multifaceted enough to capture a large audience along the same path. Ingo Gunther' project World Processor began in 1988. It is a collection of physical globes, containing, representing, and illuminating world statistics, and consequently the meaningful stories that numbers of populations, GNP, death rate, oil supply patterns, education, religion, language tell us. This IS the world as it is, void of spin (no pun intended). Because this project has evolved over two decades, the globes have had many lives, and many manifestations, while the formal aesthetic has maintained a decorum of continuity. I think the work is elegant, brilliant, and timely. This was one of the most engaging installations I have even experienced.

      1. This influenced my project in terms of how I would like to be able to engage all people in a story while still remaining respectful of truth.
  2. Document: Initial Proposal
  3. A draft of your Bibliography ( MLA style sheet format) including at least ten sources that you will reference or cite
  4. One question for each of the other members of your cluster relative to their proposal presentation last week is in my cluster?

Questions for Cohorts

  1. My question to Nada is this: What are some ways that you get get people thinking of ways racism is disguised as other things, how does the media propagate racism, what is the difference between a racist agenda and a race dialog?

Cohort's Questions to me

Qs from Gordon:

  1. First, views towards aging and even what constitutes “old” vary a lot between cultures. Do you have and interest in eventually including a comparative look at this in your project?

    1. Answer:
  2. Next, using an “Avadon-esque” blank background for your subjects can be very powerful, but including aspects of a subject's environment and cutting in some of these scenes during the time they are talking could add meaningful context. What are your thoughts on these two different approaches relative to what you would like to accomplish?

    1. Answer:

Qs from Nada:

  1. "How are you going to get young people to answer your questions?"

    1. Answer: Your second question is key to this. First there has to be some interest. I recognize that the interest needs to be built outside of the actual venue (show, or site). This would be in the form of promotion: radio interviews, fliers, newspaper articles, etc. I think if younger people understand that their ideas of "other ages" are not unlike have preconceived and often negative notions of the "other".

      1. One of the most recognizable forms of ism is sexism, but like most other isms we don't actually become the "other", so we are not ever forced to deal with an ism. However, in the case of ageism, we actually become that "other".
  2. "How are you going to get the young people to have any interest in the "old" people to listen to them?"

    1. Answer: As stated above the success of a show like this is going to be directly linked to it's marketing and promotion. In the wonderful play "Avenue Q", the song "Everyone's Just a Little Bit Racist" sets up this uncomfortable question and then answers it, in a very nonthreatening way. I hope to find a way that is also non threatening while still communicating the message.

      1. I have paired back my original plan of show and online podcast for the basis of my project. Conceptually the project remains the same, but my model is going to be the labyrinth because it is one of the most universal childhood toys and I believe it is a good selection as the vehicle for disseminating the core message. I also think it is object which translates well across many cultures, if this project were to mature.
