Lesson Plan Using Palabras for My Thesis Project
Participants:
Transgender Women that are part of El/la (Trans Latinas Unidas Ya) in San Francisco and parallel with other two participants, in L.A. and San Jose. (I will work one on one with participants in L.A. and San Jose)
Objectives:
To produce a collective video that speaks to asylum seekers
To create a project that is in collaboration with NCLR and El/la
To provide El/la participants with some internet tools
Needs:
One or Two laptops besides mine, Cameras, uploading cable.
previous to workshop: create logins and passwords.
Duration:
Five Weeks meeting once a week and a Screening Night.
1st Week:
- General Internet Workshop.
- Introduction to Palabras Site.
- Give out Cameras and explain how to use them.
- Exercise: to document your day.
- Examples of montage and commercials.
- Two minute clip every hour.
- They don't work as well at night.
- Audio capture at a distance is not very good.
- Turn the camera on yourself.
2nd Week:
- Sharing some of their videos.
- Palabras Site in Detail (only what works for them, not the uploading functions)
- Editing Tools.
On my own: update their files /using batch uploader.
3rd Week:
- Editing Exercises off line with examples I will draw
- Editing Workshop Palabras Site
- (Tagging)
- Give cameras again for a second filming exercise: to document a place that makes you feel at home.
4th Week:
- Upload video before they come.
- Sharing videos with each other.
- Working on sequences.
- Give cameras out again for final details that they may want to get.
5th Week:
- Finishing Projects, put different footage together, allow for the project to be designed by participants.
- Add titles and credits
6th Week:
- Screening of Pieces in Big Screen at El/la as a community event.
