      • technologies of landscape

      Robert Smithson, Spiral Jetty

      american technological sublime

      Amy Balkin

Cultivates seed that she finds in cracks in the sidewalk or in the cuffs of pants. Globalism relative to how these plants traverse the globe.

  • theory
    • how the aesthetics of landscape play out in (conservation?)

from Botany of Desire, the new way plants convince us to propagate them, accepting all the abuse we can throw at them.

I want to work in the taxonomies angle...

      does non-site connect to non-place

  • key ideas
    • weeding as a trope
    • effecting a turn of the trope
    • invasive/native
    • transitioning between and industrial and ?
    • taxomonomy issues
    • toxicology
  • Goals
    • Write up presentation of this project for non-space. Some sort of text that would function both as a proposal and as a talk.

      talk to margaretta

arts research grant due the 18th. For supporting the greenhouse project. What is the budget? What do we need? How could we use $2000 to get off the ground?

      need a website

      • unnaturalselection, check in, still have? how long?
      • weeding in, own site

      visit hunters point

      timeline, schedule field trip

      • Sunday April 13th.
        • meet at Elliots, bring buckets, cameras, video, audio. 11 a.m.

each person brings in a reading, 2 weeks after trip up.

  • Potential Projects
    • Greehouse / Weeding In
      • Exploring Industrial Sites that are slowly being taken over by flora, cultivate and examine the plants that are taking over the site. Site is context, the materials both in and out of site. Non-site, not a representation.

Archival Aspect: The archivisation process is also a biological process.

        • ephemeral archive of the someting lost something disposal.
        • hunters point, slaughter houses, dump offal into the bay/wet lands.  Tanya Polling, archivist,

Translation: Non-site, the translation of site, the process of investiogation is a process of translation. Looking at certain plant life that's growing on its own then we cultivate it which is an act of translation, then looking at that process semiotically.

do we set up at the site or do we harvest from the place. Mobile is very key. Being able to take this on the road to various sites.

weeds, where do they come from, this other landscape that is beyond or parallel to  the intentions of humans. The thing we try to purge. What we consider landscape?

        sets of proceedure

        • cavasing place
          • categoriszing, classifizing
        • go to place
          • How does one orientate oneself to the landscape?
        • collect soil
          • What else can we get? What defines a site?
        • harvest weeds /
          • sustainable
        • determine what we have
        • determine what to do with it
          • wildcrafting
          • time capture of weed

        roadsidestand?

        • selling tinctures when really selling awareness. Ties in to the CD at the gas station

        actuality

        • hydroponics
        • site
          • construction
          • Tonya Foster
        • set up
          • tables
          • shelving
          • growing containers
          • water system?
            • hose, auto time, plastic tubing,
        • video projections onto greehouse
          • makes it legible, situate it?

        personal spin off

        • taxonomy of narratives
        • collections of speculative fictions
    • CathexiSpin
      • can we conect this idea to the greenhouse idea in a stronger way. Art energy could still be key, and the psychology of spinning,

we want a presence at zero1, it's a big ea conference and no alternative energy. This was almost to shame them, we could draw attention and start a dialog.

  • cyclists
    • have plants, about 4, that we put in and then invite others to participate
    • dress the cyclists in neon and put black light on them
    • bikes don't become harder to pedal, it's about speed rather than resistance
    • power
      • your own suit

    • mike up several of the bikes
    • bike could controll what effect is going out
    • sample lots of songs searching for energy
  • currating?
    • do we need to design the thing that it powers to make it the right kind of look for the opening night?

we can power smaller pieces along side the big splashy thing.

      criteria for projects

      • expressive fan
      • light
      • led involvement?
  • painting the wheels
    • Guidelines: The painting has to be based on Duchamp’s retinal paintings on one side aand the other side of the disk has to use text in the mode of Anemic Cinema.

who could do it, when should we get it out, give them a pallet?
