Daniel Christopher: Trigger Padd

Making a sound is as simple as pressing a button, but creating music with a group people - familiar or unknown - is not so easy.

Description:
Trigger Pads is a platform for musical interaction intended for collaborative performance. Making a sound is as simple as pressing a button, but creating music with a group people - familiar or unknown - is not so easy. Trigger Pad units are sound installations designed to explore the social dynamic between participants and foster a sense of discovery and cooperation without rules or instructions. With no looping or quantization, the difficulty lies in timing. At its core, Trigger Pads is an invitation to play, offering users an opportunity to unleash creativity without requiring musical knowledge.

Trigger Pad sets are ergonomically designed groups of sensors that trigger or manipulate musical information – single notes (melody), chords (harmony), percussion (rhythm), and dynamic effects. They are intended to take the form of a standalone instrument. Each set has both a hardware and software component. Modules were designed with a cutout - a void intended to be filled by a participant.
