The Bit: Funerals

A large model of a barrack rolls out on stage from 3. After it has traveled half way to the center it is illuminated from inside or back lit to reveal, through the scrim it is skinned with, three actors inside who are making it move similar to the luggage train bit. The barrack is 3 feet tall at the peak of the roof and it has windows on each side that are to scale making the over all appearance realistic. When the barrack has rolled to center stage the actors on the inside reach their hands out of the windows and convey a series of gestures with the meanings: wanting, encouraging,“ just a little” “not now” as well as other “phrases” some will have no clear meaning. These hand gestures are of the type that are unconsciously employed in every day conversation. As the hand gestures continue 6 actors in citizen costume move to center stage, walking solemnly in two rows of three, like a funeral. The 6 citizens flank the barrack 3 per side and reach down and grab the hand that is nearest to them in effect becoming pall bearers as they lift the barrack/ coffin an rotate it 45º placing it down again then all six turn to face the coffin in unison a priest in robes enters from 3 to perform the ceremony in stead of funeral rights he says the haiku:
