danm new cohort orientation

Monday, September 15, 2014 - 5:00pm to Friday, September 26, 2014 - 1:00am
DARC

This year’s orientation runs from Monday, September 15 to Thursday, September 25 from 10AM - 6PM.

On the first day, students meet with DANM's technical coordinator at 10AM on Monday, September 15 in DARC 206, that’s the DANM seminar room next to the DANM office on the second floor of the Digital Arts Research Center (DARC). During orientation, each student is expected to use their own laptop, or equivalent portable computing device. The cohort eats lunch together every day at a variety of scenic Santa Cruz spots.

Every student is expected to give a 20-minute presentation on their previous creative work. The presentations are held in the DANM seminar room (DARC 206) where there is a video projector, the internet (wired and wireless), a whiteboard, and speakers. The orientation also addresses new-student administrative needs: ID cards, library access, internet/email/server access, GradLab Table assignments, locker assignments, DANM policies, building access, equipment checkout, and safety protocols.

In addition to being trained on DANM prototyping equipment and production equipment, the group collaborates on a large-scale production project in order to gain actual hands-on experience. This will take the form of a DANM New Cohort TV show. We will host a TV show screening party and invite the larger DANM community to attend on October 7!
