Friday, March 12th, 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM, DARC 306, free admission

The Digital Arts and New Media MFA program at UC Santa Cruz is pleased to announce "Lunatic Binary: Experiments in Digital Art," an exhibition of work by emerging artists presented in association with the Art Department's Open Studios on Friday March 12th.

The show features work by current first-year students pursuing master of fine art's degrees in digital art. Works to be exhibited include reactive video, experimental animation, interactive story-generating algorithms, narrative videos, innovative social documentation, and experimental audiovisual mixes.

"This show features a broad selection of the exciting work being done by students at DANM," says participating student Aaron Reed. "People on campus are always asking what's going on with our department. This is a great chance for people to come visit and see what we've been up to."

Participating artists are Joe Cantrell, Fabiola Hanna, Dustin Raphael, Aaron Reed, Phoenix Toews, and Jose Carlos Espinel Velasco.

"Lunatic Binary: Experiments in Digital Art" will be the first collaborative student art exhibition in the new Digital Arts Research Center on campus, a state-of-the-art facility shared between several arts programs. The DARC is located between the art and music departments east of Porter College on the UCSC campus.

The show runs for one day only, Friday, March 12th between 12:00 noon and 4:00 PM. It is located in the Light Lab (DARC 306). From the arts complex, head south and cross the pedestrian bridge to the third floor of the DARC building: room 306 is ahead and to the right. Admission is free. Contact: Aaron Reed, 801-403-9513.
