On November 1, 2016, DANM Faculty David Dunn was awarded patent number 9,480,248, "Use of acoustics to disrupt and deter wood-infesting insects and other invertebrates from and within trees and wood products."
In an email Dunn described the patent as "the achievement of two other researchers and myself in conjunction with Northern Arizona University. My contribution was all of the technical engineering, circuit design and construction plus outlining the underlying theoretical mathematics, sound sample recording, and some of the original conceptual ideas that the university pursued as fundamental biological research. All of this took about 9 years."
